There's nowhere practical to stay in Shakawe itself, though there are several water-based camps on the river south of town. These cater mainly for fishing and birdwatching. In recent years, since Namibia's Caprivi Strip has been off-limits for many visitors, trade here has dramatically fallen and these camps have often relied on business from visiting road construction engineers and local government officials.
