Koës

This small outpost lies about 124km northeast of Keetmanshoop, deep in the Kalahari Desert. It is the centre for the local Afrikaans farming community, and has a Bank of Windhoek, a few small shops and a hotel.

Hotel Koës

(8 rooms & 1 chalet) 2 Fontein St, PO Box 140, Koës; tel/fax: 063 252716
This tiny, basic hotel has eight rooms, of which five have en-suite facilities. It's perhaps not going to be the highlight of your holiday, but might be useful in an emergency.
Rates: single N$130, N$80 per person sharing.

Kalahari Game Lodge

(8 chalets and camping) PO Box 22, Koës; tel: 063 693105, 061 259262; fax: 061 251556; email: afriquedirect@namibnet.com, africadirect@mweb.com.na
This simple restcamp on a 27,000-hectare estate is on the C15, almost 100km east of Koës, near the Mata Mata gate into the enormous Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. If and when that gate re-opens, this is bound to become a popular spot to stop overnight, but until then it will probably remain hard to get to and rarely visited.
Rates: N$700 per person, including dinner and breakfast. Self-catering N$300 per person. Camping N$30 per person.
