Ngandu Safari

(28 rooms) Usivi Rd, PO Box 519, Rundu; tel: 066 256723; fax: 066 256726; email: ngandu@mweb.com.na; web: http://resafrica.net/ngandu-safari-lodge
Just off the main road by the river, beside the turn-off to Sarasungu, Ngandu is a large complex that opened around 1998, just in time for tourism to the Caprivi to nose-dive. It has very large whitewashed A-frame chalets with thatched roofs, reminiscent of Cape Dutch style, and is hard to miss at the top of the hill overlooking the river.

It was billed as an affordable alternative for visitors on holiday, especially South Africans. The ten luxury rooms have air conditioning, TV with Mnet and overseas channels, direct-dial telephones, stove, fridge, kettle and a hairdryer. A breakfast pack, to cook yourself, is usually supplied. More recently, six semi-luxury rooms have been added to the lodge; these also have air conditioning, and TV with Mnet.

Ngandu's six standard rooms are more basic, with just ceiling fans and a fridge. For families there are some simple family rooms, whilst there's always the campsite if you are travelling with your own tent.

The lodge has a separate restaurant, a curio shop, a laundry, a swimming pool, internet access, shaded parking spots, braai facilities, a conference room and 24-hour security.
