Anib Lodge

(10 rooms, camping) PO Box 800, Mariental; tel: 063 240529; fax: 063 240516; email: anib@natron.net; web: www.natron.net/tour/anib/lodgee.htm

About 34km from Mariental, Anib is around 23km east of the B1, on the C20 towards Stampriet and Aranos. It's run by Viktoria and Ernst Dukes, a vivacious Austrian couple who previously spent several years at the Etosha Garden Hotel, and have now brought this experience to create a homely and very personal atmosphere in their own lodge. Simple but comfortable double and family rooms feature stone floors and locally produced Anin textiles; each has an en-suite shower, as well as air conditioning/heating. One of the rooms has wheelchair access. The small campsite gets the five-star treatment, with each of the four pitches having electricity and a private bathroom with hot water.

Chairs and tables are set out in a flower-decked garden with a swimming pool, affording plenty of opportunity for relaxation. Two hours before sunset, guests are taken out on a sundowner game drive to experience for themselves the attractions of the Kalahari.
Food is an important aspect of life here, for Viktoria not only produces home-cooked meals but also bottles her own produce under the label 'Kalahari Gourmet'. This, along with local pottery and the Anin textiles, are sold in the shop on site. The Anin project itself is based some 100km north of Anib, between Hoachanas and Uhlenhorst (see page 198).

There are marked walks around the farm, and game drives are included in the price. Anib offers visitors the opportunity to experience all that the Kalahari has to offer, and is well worth a stay of a couple of nights.

Rates: N$621 per person, including dinner, bed and breakfast, and a game drive. Children 6–12 half price. Camping N$85 per person.
