Arebbusch

(50 chalets, 8 double rooms) Olympia, PO Box 80160; tel: 061 252255; fax: 061 251670; email: atl@iwwn.com.na; web: www.iwwn.com.na/arebbusch
Less than 10km south of the centre, between the Safari Hotel and Windhoek Country Club, this is Windhoek's only dedicated campsite; it is clean, spacious and very impressive. There are 12 pitches for caravans, and 40 for tents.

The chalets have small, well-equipped kitchens, TVs, direct-dial phones, linen, en-suite shower/toilet, air conditioning and an outside braai. The rooms are more basic, having just beds, a cupboard and a washbasin. They share toilets and showers with the campers. Both types of rooms are clean, comfortable, and serviced daily. Arebbusch's security is tight – with an electric fence and guard on the gate – so it is proving a safe place to stay.

There's also a spotless restaurant on site, with a good range of steaks and salads, some vegetarian options and a kids' menu (closed Sundays except for breakfast). Added to this are a laundry, a bar and a good pool. The only snag is, you need a car to get here.
