Auas

(16 rooms) PO Box 80887, Windhoek; tel: 061 240043; fax: 061 248633; cell: 081 127 0043; email: auas@iafrica.com.na; web: www.auas/lodge.com
Auas is a German-run lodge, about 44km southeast of Windhoek into the Kalahari. To reach it, take the B1 or the C23 roads heading south, then turn left on to the gravel D1463 – the road is not always viable in a 2WD, so do check in advance if this is likely to be a problem. The lodge is 22km from the B1, or 16km from the C23.

Auas stands on a game farm, whose residents include black wildebeest (from South Africa) and crocodiles in a separate enclosure. The active will appreciate the swimming pool and tennis court, and opportunities for mountain-bike rides, while more sedentary guests can relax on their own veranda or at the bar. Day visitors are welcome for lunch or dinner, with advance reservation.
